Xbox 360 - Online Multiplayer and Split-Screen Simultaneously

When I got my Xbox 360, I also got an Xbox Live Gold account so I could play online with folks. Jenn, too, wanted to play, so she got a Gold account as well. Cool.

Of course, Jenn wants to play at the same time I'm playing, which is neat, even though we don't work cooperatively for crap. (Ironic?) What that means is we need Xbox 360 games that support multiple people playing online from the same console.

Don't all of them do that? Actually, it turns out not as many as you'd think do. On classic Xbox, Halo 2 supports two people on the same Xbox logged into Live at the same time (actually, I think it supports up to four on the same Xbox while logged into Live). But which games on Xbox 360?

You'd think Gauntlet would - it supports up to four people in the game, and it doesn't even need split-screen. Nope - you can either play multiple people on the Xbox or you can play online, but not both at the same time. What about PGR3? Nope - same deal, you get to pick.

Of course, this was pretty disappointing to Jenn, who bought the account specifically to play, and thus far has really only had a chance to get on with Halo 2. (Again, she wants to play with me, and I don't have two Xbox 360 consoles.)

On an up note, I found a database that is gathering information on which games support this sort of thing. I think this is going to be a huge resource for me: http://www.45six.com/xbox/360games/

As of this writing, I have my choice of Perfect Dark Zero, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, or The Outfit. (Luckily, we own The Outfit and like it, so we now just need to convince our friends to pick it up.)

UPDATE 3/31/08: Looks like Co-Optimus has started a nice listing of co-op games for several systems.

I would love to play Rainbow Six Vegas/Vegas2 via a splitscreen multiplayer while online. I wish this was an option with all Xbox games. If I do have to resort to buying another console, it will be used, so it's not like MS is going to make extra monies off me! =D

I know that GRAW 2 has 4 player and when I got it, I didn't like the third-person shooter mode on single-player, but when my mates came over, it was first-person shooter on split-screen. YOU GOT TO GET IT!!!!

I remember playing great 4 player split screen games on N64, Sega DreamCast, Game Cube and also the original xbox, and I also enjoy online multiplayer, but if all these new machines likie xbox 360 and PS3 have all that power and they also have the possibility of connecting 4 controllers, where is the 4 player split screen games we used to play with our friends? Why don“t we make some attention call to those game makers and tell them we need that kind of game back.

This game isn't even worth buying if there is no split screen play. You have to play with your friends online at your seperate houses and talk through headsets? Sick...not. If you really wanted to compete with the top selling game halo then youd step it up to split screen. Till then far cry 2 aint got shit.

i think it is stupid if you look at the back G.R.A.W 1/2 there is nothing different between that and rainbow six vegus 1/2 it does not specifie that it is not 2 player split screen online so you cam get the game home and think its goin be a mint game and its w**k because you cannot play split screen online with your mate and i am not going out to buy another consol to play through a system link some one sould write to xbox and compain but i can not im too busy playing GRAW1 the best online 2 player split screen game there is on the XBOX 360 which is w**k as ther is not many 2 player split screen games on it BYE BYE peps and dont buy games for your xbox 360 and expect online 2PLAYER SPLIT SCREEN

Me and my partner face the same problem, although I'm the 'Jenn' of the pair.

The only games we've found so far are 'Gears of War 2' and 'Left 4 Dead' and also 'Virtua Tennis' but the last is less played.

If only if only game makers would wake up and see the marketing and selling potential multiplayer/online multiplayer games would have, XBOX should regulate this because they would sell more XBOX's due to the fact that wives/girlfriends would be able to play and not sit in the background watching.
